| Abstract | The term "stromatolite" was coined by Kalkowsky (1908) while describing coastal paleoenvironments of a Lower Triassic (Buntsandstein) epicontinental sea. Stable, finely laminated structures appeared together with massive deposits of shoaling ooid sands, and later consolidated into rocks ("Stromatolith und Oolith"). |
