| Abstract | The Red Mountain Formation (Lower Silurian, Llandoverian Series) exposed at Birmingham, Alabama, was deposited in a shallow environment. It displays an array of facies from the littoral beach to the offshore mud shelf. The method of proximality analysis was used successfully to obtain detailed relative depth data throughout the formation. |
