| Abstract | Cirriped boring on certain belemnite rostra are adjusted to the normal, head-on movement of the belemnite. In contrast, the streamlining of the rostrum is related only to occasional backward escapes (“emergency adaptation”). The borings also indicate that the soft parts covering the rostrum were highly reduced in the adult stage of some belemnites. |
